From the show Reading time 1 min A newly released batch of more than three million documents from the US Department of Justice is casting fresh light on convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein’s connections to some of the biggest names in tech.

The trove of documents, which includes emails, calendars and internal correspondence, shows that the late Epstein cultivated relationships with leading tech leaders and executives throughout the early to mid-2010s.

Names appearing in the records include Elon Musk, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, LinkedIn's Reid Hoffman, PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel, Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and more.

None have been accused of participating in Epstein’s abuse or the trafficking of minors, but the material provides unprecedented detail about how Epstein embedded himself in elite tech circles - through introductions, scheduling, group emails and investment activity.

The New York Times reported Thursday that Epstein wasn’t just socialising with tech executives but invested alongside them, including millions in early crypto exchange Coinbase and tens of millions through funds linked to Thiel, even after his 2008 sex crime conviction.

Emails also showed Musk asking about visiting Epstein’s private island in 2012 and 2013, despite later saying he refused invitations. Musk and Hoffman have since publicly clashed on the SpaceX CEO's platform X over their past associations.

Meanwhile, Bill Gates has voiced regret over "every minute" spent with Epstein, even as the Microsoft co-founder's former wife, Melinda, said he still had questions to answer over his relationship with the disgraced financier.
