Police record major drugs bust at border post

AUTHORITIES have reported the interception of a consignment of drugs that was about to be smuggled into the country through Maitengwe Border Post recently leading to the arrest of one suspect.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the arrest of 41-year-old Christopher Dube in connection with the matter.

?On February 3, 2026, police in Madlambuzi intercepted a Toyota GD6 vehicle and arrested Christopher Dube (41) at Maitengwe Border Post  in connection with unlawful possession of 228 kgs of dagga, 293 boxes of Broncleer cough syrup, 81 boxes of Astra Pain cough syrup and 80 bottles of Calcium Magnesium tablets,? said Nyathi.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated but similar case, Nyasha Mujongondi (38) was arrested last week at Beitbridge Border Post for possession of an unspecified quantity of Astra Pain cough syrup.
