?We had absolutely no role in this incident? — Information Secretary rejects claims govt is linked to killing of opposition political activist in South Africa

ZIMBABWE?S Information Permanent Secretary, Nick Mangwana, has sprang to the defence of the government, saying it had no hand in the alleged assassination of a political activist based in neighbouring South Africa.

Kudzai Weston Saruwaka tragically lost his life under unclear circumstances last week in what the opposition camp alleges is targeted political violence by Zanu PF.

Saruwaka was linked to an underground movement known as the ?Geza Revolution?, some of whose members are allegedly operating outside the country, pushing for a change of government. The grouping was fronted by the late Blessed Runesu Geza, who coincidentally died in South Africa last Friday.

Former Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) legislator Trevor Sarukwa, elder brother to the slain activist, has fingered what he termed ?political thugs? for his young brother?s killing, sparking an online outrage with most commentators accusing Mnangagwa?s government of being behind the tragedy.

?The political thugs have assassinated my young brother, Kudzai Weston Saruwaka, of the Geza Revolution, only a day after the passing of Cde Blessed Bombshell Geza.

?You are a martyr who has paid the ultimate price for the freedom of Zimbabwe. The cause is still there, so the struggle continues,? said the former legislator.

There is no doubt in my mind that hitmen sent by ZANU assassinated Saruwaka.

The assassination of this young Zimbabwean- Kudzai Weston Saruwaka in South Africa has the footprints of an extraterritorial killing! He was close to the late war veteran Blessing Geza and a young brother to Former Member of Parliament Hon Trevor Saruwaka.

In response to the accusations that the Zanu PF government had played a part in young Saruwaka?s killing, Mangwana pushed back, describing the allegations as unfounded.

?We categorically reject the unfounded allegations being pushed around the internet regarding the tragic death of a Zimbabwean national in South Africa,? Mangwana wrote on social media.

?We had absolutely no role in this incident. We extend our condolences to the family and express our full confidence in the South African authorities, who we trust will conduct a thorough investigation.

?As a nation grappling with one of the world?s highest rates of violent crime, South Africa?s police are experienced in such complex cases. We urge all parties to allow the process to proceed without harmful speculation.?

South African authorities are yet to issue a statement regarding Saruwaka?s death.
