A MAN IN his 70s has died he crashed on a regional road in Co Tipperary this afternoon.

The man was driving on the R660 when he crashed at Holycross. Emergency services attended the scene shortly after 2.15pm and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

His remains have been removed to University Hospital Limerick where a post-mortem exam will be carried out. The local coroner has been notified. 

Gardaí conducted a technical examination of the scene and the road has since reopened.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or have any footage are asked to contact gardaí.

In a separate incident early this morning in Tipperary, five occupants of an SUV were hospitalised after the vehicle crashed on a local road at Toem, near Cappawhite at around 6.15am.

The five occupants of the vehicle – three man in their 30s, and two woman in their 20s – were taken to University Hospital Limerick for treatment. 

Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, gardaí said. 

Gardaí are similarly appealing for any eyewitnesses to come forward, and asked anyone with information to contact Tipperary Town Garda Station on (062) 80670, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
