New England Patriots take on the Seattle Seahawks in NFL showpiece in California
The NFL champions will be decided in Santa Clara, California in what is one of the biggest events in world sport.
It is a record-extending 12th Super Bowl appearance for the resurgent Patriots, who beat the Denver Broncos 10-7 away in swirling snow before the Seahawks then defeated the Los Angeles Rams 31-27 on Championship Sunday last month.
The Patriots are aiming to win a record seventh Vince Lombardi Trophy, moving clear of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Seahawks' last Super Bowl appearance came as defending champions in 2014, when they lost 28-24 to the Patriots in Arizona after Malcolm Butler’s last-gasp interception of Russell Wilson that followed Seattle choosing to throw from New England’s one-yard line with seconds left rather than hand the ball off to superstar running back Marshawn Lynch - one of the most famous sequences in Super Bowl history.
A rematch is on the cards at Levi's Stadium some 12 years later in Super Bowl LX, with both the Patriots and Seahawks having defied all expectations during one of the most open and surprising NFL seasons in recent memory.
The personnel are now all very different of course, with the likes of Tom Brady, Wilson, Lynch, Butler, Bill Belichick and Pete Carroll all long since moving on.
Instead, New England are now led by Mike Vrabel, a three-time Super Bowl winner with the team as a player who has performed heroics in his first year as head coach since replacing the one-and-done Jerod Mayo, proving the perfect leader to quickly accelerate the development of second-year quarterback Drake Maye - the third overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Seattle’s resurgence has been led by Mike Macdonald, anchored by a ferocious defensive unit and one of the NFL’s biggest redemption stories in signal-caller Sam Darnold, previously written off as a high-profile draft bust and bouncing around the league before providing the perfect fit for the Seahawks.
The 2026 Super Bowl is scheduled for Sunday, February 8.
Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California will host. The 68,000-seater venue is a familiar setting for landmark games, having also been picked for Super Bowl 50 when Peyton Manning’s Denver Broncos defeated Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers.
It is the home of the San Francisco 49ers.
