The Peruvian government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, contacted Mexican authorities to convey its discomfort over Betssy Chavez's use of social media. In a communiqué, the Ministry also reported that the Peruvian government has received confirmation that the messages in question have been removed from social media."Having taken note of the recordings and messages disseminated on social media in recent days by Ms. Betssy Chavez Chino—who is currently under asylum at the residence of the Embassy of Mexico in Peru—contact was made with the Mexican authorities to convey our discomfort over such actions, in accordance with the provisions of Article XVIII of the 1954 Caracas Convention on Diplomatic Asylum," the statement said.The communiqué added that "the Peruvian government has received confirmation that the messages and recordings in question have been removed from social media, as well as that such situations will not recur in the future."It should be recalled that politically-tinged messages were disseminated on social media in recent days by former Prime Minister Betssy Chavez.In November 2025, she was sentenced to 11 years and five months in prison in connection with an attempted coup d'état dated December 7, 2022.??Comunicado de Prensa 004-26: Uso de redes sociales por Betssy Chávez.??https://t.co/noZ9rIE0Fa pic.twitter.com/2Xzn6iXWxc
