SEOUL, Feb. 9 (Yonhap) -- Samsung SDI Co. said Monday it has agreed with South Korea's state-run Korea East-West Power Co. to forge ties for overseas energy storage system (ESS) and renewable energy projects.
The two companies signed a memorandum of understanding at the headquarters of StarPlus Energy in Indiana, a joint venture between Samsung SDI and Stellantis N.V., to deepen cooperation across the energy sector, Samsung SDI said in a release.
Samsung SDI said the agreement is significant amid rapidly growing global demand for ESS and renewable energy, as the deal brings together its competitiveness as a battery maker and the state-run energy firm's extensive expertise in power plant construction.
The battery maker noted that while it has secured a series of large-scale supply agreements with major U.S. energy companies, its collaboration with Korea East-West Power, which has experience in implementing projects in overseas markets, including the United States, Australia and Indonesia, will further strengthen its presence in the sector.
"Building on the agreement, the two companies plan to steadily expand joint business opportunities in the global energy market, broaden the scope of their collaboration and take a proactive approach to changes in the global supply chain," Samsung SDI said in the release.
