SEOUL, Feb. 9 (Yonhap) -- South Korean food company CJ Cheiljedang Corp. said Monday its fourth-quarter net loss widened sharply from a year earlier, largely due to non-operating losses related to asset valuations.

Net losses deepened to 798.7 billion won (US$547 million) in the three months ended in December from 152.8 billion won in the same period of 2024, the company said in a regulatory filing.

"Weaker domestic food sales amid a prolonged market slowdown and higher raw material costs weighed on quarterly results. Declining sales in the biotechnology business, including livestock feed amino acids, also hurt performance," a company spokesperson said.

The company didn't disclose the exact size of losses associated with the revaluation of tangible and intangible assets during the fourth quarter.

Operating profit fell 21.6 percent to 295.9 billion won from 377.3 billion won during the same period. Sales declined 6.5 percent to 7 trillion won from 7.49 trillion won.

Looking ahead, the spokesperson said the company plans to seek growth in new overseas markets while restructuring its biotechnology operations.

For all of 2025, the company swung to a net loss of 416.9 billion won from a net profit of 361.8 billion won a year earlier.

Full-year operating profit plunged 20.6 percent to 1.23 trillion won from 1.55 trillion won, while sales were down 6.9 percent to 27.3 trillion won from 29.3 trillion won.

CJ Cheiljedang currently operates 34 production facilities overseas, including 20 in the United States, five in Japan, four in China, three in Vietnam, and one each in Germany and Australia. The company also runs 17 plants in South Korea.

It is building two additional production facilities, one in Hungary and another in the U.S. state of South Dakota.
