Passengers who need extra checked baggage are advised to purchase it in advance via the airline's website, mobile app or authorized agents at least six hours before departure, rather than waiting until arriving at the airport.
With air travel demand expected to spike during the Tet holiday next week, Vietnam Airlines is urging travelers to arrive early and comply strictly with aviation safety and security regulations. The carrier recommends completing check-in online through its website, mobile app, call center, or self-service kiosks within 24 hours before departure to reduce waiting times.
Passengers who have checked in online or at kiosks and are not checking luggage can proceed directly to security screening, significantly shortening airport queues. Travelers are also advised to prepare identification and boarding passes in advance, keep personal belongings neatly arranged for screening, and closely monitor boarding gate information on airport display screens for last-minute changes.
Vietnam Airlines has also expanded biometric check-in services integrated with the national digital ID system, VNeID, allowing eligible passengers to complete check-in, security screening and boarding more quickly. The airline recommends verifying VNeID at Level 2 to fully access digital services, reduce processing errors and improve identity verification accuracy.
Passengers must present valid, unexpired identification such as a citizen ID card, passport, driver’s license, or Level 2 digital ID information. Children under 14 may use a birth certificate, while passengers aged 14 and older are not permitted to use birth certificates when flying.
The airline also reminded travelers to strictly follow aviation security rules, particularly regarding prohibited items. Passengers are advised to check regulations on flammable or explosive substances, sharp objects and non-compliant lithium batteries in advance to avoid problems during security screening.
During the Tet travel peak, Vietnam’s two largest airports, Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi and Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City, are expected to set new traffic records. Noi Bai’s busiest day is forecast to fall on Feb. 15, two days before the new lunar year, with around 116,000 passengers and 674 flights. At Tan Son Nhat, the peak is expected three or four days before the new year, with about 1,017 flights per day.
Tan Son Nhat Airport is completing the transition of domestic flights operated by Vietnam Airlines, Pacific Airlines, Vasco, Bamboo Airways, Vietravel Airlines and Sun PhuQuoc Airways to the new Terminal T3, while domestic flights operated by VietJet Air will continue operating from Terminal T1.
The airport has also rolled out biometric identification systems and clearer signage at Terminal T3 gates, aiming to improve service quality and shorten processing times during the Tet travel peak.
