Foreign minister of Uzbekistan Bakhtiyor Saidov, at a meeting with US secretary of state Marco Rubio in Washington on 5 February, presented the album titled “Uzbekistan Quarter in Gaza”. The minister posted photos from the meeting on his social media channels.
While no details have been provided, this suggests that Uzbekistan may be considering participation in efforts to rebuild the Gaza Strip by funding and constructing a residential quarter there.
At the meeting, Saidov and Rubio discussed “the most acute issues on the global stage,” the minister wrote.
“[It was] underscored that the recently established Board of Peace is emerging as an effective platform for promoting stability and prosperity in war-torn regions, offering renewed hope to millions of people for a more secure and dignified future,” the foreign minister noted.

The meeting reaffirmed Uzbekistan’s and the United States' commitment to continued cooperation “to address common challenges, strengthen international security and advance sustainable development”, he added.
In Washington, minister Saidov participated in the Critical Minerals Ministerial meeting organized by the US State Department, which brought together representatives from 54 countries and the European Commission.
Uzbekistan and the US signed the Memorandum of Understanding for Securing of Supply in the Mining and Processing of Critical Minerals and Rare Earths. “We view critical minerals not only as an economic opportunity, but also as an area for responsible partnership and long-term development,” the minister noted.
At the end of January, Uzbekistan opened a residential complex in Türkiye's Hatay province, one of the areas hardest hit by the devastating 2023 earthquake.
