MILAN, Feb. 9 (Yonhap) -- South Korean speed skater Lee Na-hyun notched a top-10 finish in her Winter Olympic debut in Milan on Monday.

Lee became the first South Korean to crack the top 10 in the women's 1,000m.

One other South Korean in the race, Kim Min-sun, finished 18th with 1:16.24.

Jutta Leerdam of the Netherlands claimed the gold medal with a new Olympic record time of 1:12.31 -- moments after her Dutch teammate, Femke Kok, first set the Olympic record with 1:12.59.

The 2022 champion Miho Takagi of Japan, who had the previous Olympic record of 1:13.19, grabbed the bronze with a time of 1:13.95.

The 500m is the main event for both Kim and Lee. That race is scheduled for Sunday.
