Following the devastating floods in Mozambique, the Government of India has decided to donate rice, medicines and essential relief material in support of the people affected, reflecting the enduring spirit of friendship and solidarity between the two countries.

The Government of India will be donating 500 metric tonnes of rice, with the consignment expected to be dispatched from India during February, and an Indian Naval Ship will also deliver essential relief material, including medicines, hygiene kits and shelter kits.

Meanwhile, 86 metric tonnes of life-saving medicines have already been dispatched from India. This is the third and final tranche of the medical consignment, arriving at a critical time in Mozambique, and will augment the country’s healthcare capabilities.

The High Commission of India has appealed to Indian community organisations, companies and nationals to contribute generously for people affected by the floods.

In collaboration with the Maputo Municipal Council, essential food items were donated to around 200 families in a locality affected by the floods in Maputo. In collaboration with the Marracuene Municipal Council, food and clothing items were distributed to 300 families affected by the floods in Marracuene. In collaboration with the Mayor of Xai-Xai, rice and food items will be donated in Xai-Xai.
