Latvian luge hope Aparjods finishes just off the podium in Italy

Name day: Simona, Apolonija

Yesterday, 21:05 Sport Authors: LSM English (Latvian Public Media) The medals for the men's luge event at the Milan-Cortina Olympic Games were awarded on Sunday evening with Latvia's Kristers Aparjods finishing just outside the medal positions in fourth. After the first day of competition on Saturday, Aparjods was a real contender for a medal, but in the third run he made a serious mistake at the start, which he could not make up in the fourth and final run, settling for a place just off the podium.

The Olympic champion was German Max Langenhahn, who ran four very solid races, finishing the race with a total time of 3 minutes 31.191 seconds. The runner-up was Austrian Jonas Müller, who was 0.596 seconds behind and Italy's Dominik Fischnaller won bronze, losing 0.934 seconds to the leader.

Kristers Aparjods claimed fourth place, 1.421 seconds behind Langenhahn, while another Latvian athlete, Gints B?rzi?š, rounded out the top ten, finishing 2.852 seconds behind the winner.

Nevertheless, this is the best performance of his career at the Olympic Games for Aparjods, as he was fifth in Beijing four years ago, and sixth in Pyeongchang in 2018.

In luge, the next medals will be awarded to the women, who will compete on the Cortina track on February 9th/10th.
