Police in Musina have arrested a 27-year-old Zimbabwean woman for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition following an operation in Nancefield last week.

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), officers acted on information received at about 8 pm on Thursday regarding a suspect linked to an attempted murder case and proceeded to a residence in the area later that evening.

Limpopo SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba said police found only the woman at the premises when they arrived.

“A search was conducted inside the house, during which a 9mm pistol with a filed-off serial number was discovered hidden inside a pillow. Live ammunition and one magazine were also recovered,” Mashaba said.

He added that the woman failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for possessing the firearm and ammunition and was subsequently arrested.

The arrested woman is expected to appear before the Musina Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Police investigations are continuing.

Last week, a 39-year-old woman was arrested for attempted murder after allegedly stabbing a 40-year-old colleague multiple times at a retail store in the Namakgale policing area.

At the time, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the victim was on her way to work when she received a call from a colleague informing her that a woman was looking for her at the store.

On arrival, the victim went to the storeroom to retrieve stock and began packing shelves when the suspect approached her, exchanged greetings and then allegedly attacked her with a knife, stabbing her repeatedly.
