googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('footerleaderboard'); }); The state witness known as Mr X in the trial of alleged underworld crime boss, Jerome Booysen, has conceded that some of the evidence he gave to Crime Intelligence upon his arrest regarding his involvement in the murder of steroids king, Brian Wainstein, may have been captured incorrectly or misunderstood.
This came out during Mr X?s cross-examination by Booysen?s defence counsel in the Western Cape High Court.
Booysen and 11 co-accused face charges relating to the 2017 murder of Wainstein, and charges related to the Prevention of Organised Crime Act.
Booysen?s lawyer, Advocate Amanda Nel, has put it to Mr X that a portion of his evidence was left out when he gave his statement for the first time to Crime Intelligence.
This relates to, among others, Mr X?s involvement in the distribution of steroids for Wainstein and alleged associate, Ralph Stanfield.
Nel has argued that Mr X did not divulge this information to Crime Intelligence until 2018.
The witness told the court that he withheld some evidence because he was still gathering more information , he conceded that he may have made mistakes or been misunderstood.
It has also emerged in court that Andre Naude helped Mr X to distribute drugs to Wainstein and Mark Lifman?s clients, but Nel put it to Mr X that there is a large involvement of Naude that?s not contained in his statement.
The court has also heard that Mr X did not disclose a shooting incident, which took place in 2016 at a nightclub in Cape Town, in which Kamal Naidoo?s friend was shot by Collin Booysen?s guys.
According to Mr X, the incident signalled the start of the nightclub security conflict between rival gangs around Cape Town.
Mr X told the court that Naidoo, Jerome Booysen?s associate, had told him that he had trouble with his brother, Collin Booysen and alleged crime boss Nafiz Modack.
According to Mr X, Mark Lifman, Naidoo, Jerome Booysen and Andre Naude had put out a hit of 500 thousand rand each on Modack and Colin Booysen.
